La banda, compuesta por Kinsella, Steve Holmes y Steve Lamos, se estableció en Champaign y grabó este álbum en Private Studios con Brendan Gamble (Braid). Como banda, American Football pasó a la historia casi al instante del lanzamiento de este álbum, pero su éxito continuó creciendo en su ausencia y la banda finalmente se reunió en 2014 para el 15.º aniversario del disco.
